Vet Assistant Life - A New Adventure!

For those who may not know, I happily accepted a position as a Veterinary Assistant at Comstock Equine Hospital in July. I have the pleasure of working with some of the most talented veterinarians, technicians, and support staff in the region and I am excited to learn all I can! I am currently working part time with a varying schedule which does affect my availability at the ranch, however Dan is doing a fantastic job keeping things running smoothly!

I have always had a passion for science and helping animals. I had wanted to be a vet for a long time as a kid but after working in a small animal practice as an assistant in my late teens/early twenties, I decided on a different course. I ended up at Charles River Laboratories in 2005 and found a place where I could explore both working with animals and my love for science. I spent 13 wonderful years at CRL learning a lot and gaining so much valuable experience that has benefited me greatly since joining Comstock!

I am looking forward to utilizing my experiences in the hospital to share with you in future posts what we can do as horse owners to make things easier and safer for our beloved pets and those that handle them when they are scared and in pain. We have the ability to do this by taking the time before it's an emergency to educate our horses (and pigs, goats, alpacas, etc) and prepare them for many of the procedures and processes they will need to accept in order to be treated safely.
