This is an exciting way to experience a real time response and reaction scenario. Witness how often a simple change of bit can create a major change throughout the horse’s body and rider posture.

Kathy will walk you through her consultation method with the participating horse and rider(s) and explain what she is seeing and what she is aiming to change. Bit actions will be explained and the responses to them and why. It’s all about breaking down what the horse can accommodate, deciphering what the response is and adjusting the bit choice to suit the horse. The riders will also feel the benefit as the horse becomes more relaxed and accepting of the bit, so the rider’s position, demeanor and input also adjusts the mindset and posture of the rider.

Utilizing real skulls, this is an in-depth demonstration and discussion of bit fitting and function. With a collection of over 25 different bits, as well as bosals, mechanical hackamores, and other bitless devices on the market, Kathy will discuss and demonstrate their mechanics and function. She will also discuss the importance of knowing your horse's mouth anatomy and learn more about the general anatomy of the equine mouth and common pathologies. We will add measurable pressure to the reins to show how many of the bits actually function in the horse's mouth.

Observers will be encouraged to participate in the demonstration by handling the reins as if riding, touching, and interacting with the skulls and bits, if desired.
